Services / Caregiver coaching
You're with your child all week. We make that count.
A therapist sees your child for an hour. You see them for the other 167. Caregiver coaching turns everyday moments — meals, bath, the walk to school — into practice that works, with strategies shown to you, not just described.
What it is
Built into every session, and available on its own.
Coaching is part of how KidSLP works: in every in-home or online session you watch, then take a turn while your therapist coaches from the side. You leave knowing what to do, why, and what it looks like when it's working.
Some families also book coaching-only sessions — for example, a caregiver-focused hour after an evaluation to set up home routines, or a check-in when a new stage arrives (starting daycare, a new sibling, a school transition).
Coaching works because the research says so: for early language in particular, approaches that train the people a child talks to most are among the best supported (The Hanen Centre). It also gives you something to do on the days that feel hardest.
What to expect
How coaching works.
Watch
Your therapist models a strategy with your child, narrating what they're doing and why.
Try
You take over the same activity while your therapist coaches quietly from the side.
Tweak
Small adjustments on the spot — a longer pause, a shorter phrase, a different toy.
Use it all week
Two or three strategies, tied to routines you already have, written down in plain language.
Who it's for
For every grown-up who loves this child.
Parents of late talkers and toddlers in early-language therapy
Caregivers supporting a child who uses AAC
Families managing mealtimes with a picky eater or problem feeder
Grandparents, nannies and other caregivers who want to use the same strategies
Parents of a child who stutters, learning how to respond at home
Anyone who's been told “just talk to them more” and wants to know how
Questions parents ask
Before you book
For coaching inside a therapy session, yes — that's the point. Coaching-only sessions can be with or without your child, depending on what we're working on; a routines-planning session, for example, is often easier without a toddler on your lap.
Please. Consistency across the grown-ups in a child's life is one of the biggest accelerators we see. Grandparents, nannies and co-parents are welcome in any session, in person or online.
No. It's specific to your child's communication goals and to your home — what to do at your table, with your child's favourite toys, in your routines.
Coaching inside a therapy session is included. Coaching-only sessions are priced like a therapy session; we'll tell you on the consult call and put it in writing before you book.
Every voice grows differently. Let's talk about yours.
Fifteen minutes with a licensed speech-language pathologist. No forms about your child's health, no commitment — just a conversation about what you're noticing.
