Our commitment

Many of the people who come to this site are disabled, or are caring for a disabled child, or both. We want this website to work for you. If it doesn’t, that’s our problem to fix, not yours to work around.

Kid Speech Language Pathology P.C., d/b/a KidSLP, is responsible for kidslp.com.

What we’re aiming for

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA as our target. That is the current published standard from the World Wide Web Consortium, and content that meets WCAG 2.2 also meets the earlier 2.1 and 2.0 versions.

We are not claiming this site fully meets that standard, and it has not been independently audited. We are telling you the target we are working toward and holding ourselves to it.

What we’ve built in

These are things we have actually done, not intentions:

• A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page, so you can jump past the navigation with one keystroke.
• A visible focus outline. When you move through the page with a keyboard, the element you are on is marked with a clear outline — not a faint one, and never removed.
• Real heading structure. Pages use proper headings in order, so screen readers and screen navigation can move through a page by section.
• Text alternatives for images. Images that carry meaning have descriptions. Decorative images are marked as decorative, so a screen reader skips them instead of reading noise.
• Labelled navigation, so assistive technology announces the menus correctly.
• A declared page language, so screen readers use the right pronunciation.
• Layouts that hold up on a phone and at large zoom.
• Plain language and short sentences, on purpose, throughout the site.

Where we know we fall short

We would rather name the gaps than pretend they aren’t there:

• We have not measured every color combination on the site against the contrast standard. We designed for readability, but “designed for” is not “measured.”
• Some sections of our theme have not been tested with every screen reader, or with keyboard-only navigation end to end.
• Downloadable documents may not be tagged for screen readers.
• Any embedded video or audio may not have captions or a transcript.
• Our forms may not label every field clearly, or announce errors well.
• Third-party content on the site (see below) is outside our direct control.

If you hit one of these, please tell us. We fix what we hear about first.

Please tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology, telling us which one helps us reproduce the problem.

We will reply within 5 business days. If a fix will take longer than that, we will say so and tell you roughly how long.

And we will get you the information another way. You never have to get past a broken page to reach us. If any part of this site isn’t usable for you, ask, and we will send the same information by email, by text, over WhatsApp or Messenger, in large print, as a plain-text file, or read aloud in a voice message — whatever works for you. You can start services, ask questions, and schedule this way too. There is no charge for any of it.

Third-party content we don’t control

Parts of this site are built and served by other companies: our website platform (HubSpot), the forms and scheduling tools embedded in our pages, and any social media content we display. We chose these tools, so we will push those vendors and look for workarounds — but we cannot change their code.

If a third-party form or scheduler is blocking you, contact us directly using any method above and we will complete it with you, or take the information another way.

If we haven’t resolved something, you can raise it outside our practice:
